Legacy Lighthouse Academy

A Christian-based hybrid school inspired by Charlotte Mason.

Academics

Legacy Lighthouse teaches students to become independent learners, logical thinkers and articulate speakers.  But more than just academic skills, we build love of God's wisdom and strong character into our program so that our students are "equipped for every good work" - 2 Timothy 3:17.

Who shouldn't attend Legacy Lighthouse Academy

If you are looking to:

  • Only focus on academics

  • Have a highly structured, workbook - based learning

  • Have very little parent involvement

  • Avoid falling in love with reading, art, and music

  • Not develop your character and acquire good habits

  • Use an abundance of technology in the classroom

Curriculum and Learning

The ages of 10-14 are an important social and academic phase in which children learn to think more critically, discuss in more depth, and build important social and individual boundaries.

To this end, our 6th-8th graders get longer class periods of 35-45 minutes to allow for deeper study and discussion of the more in-depth topics they will be covering.

Students still have plenty of time for socialization, and as with the rest of our program, we are intentionally tech-free with no use of laptops or phones by our students.

Our daily curriculum includes extensive reading and study across a variety of books, requiring students to read independently and analyze what they learn.

Language Arts and Writing

Clear communication begins with a strong foundation in grammar and composition.  Legacy Lighthouse uses the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) programs, including Fix It! Grammar and Structure and Style. Through guided instruction, students analyze and imitate quality writing before gradually developing their own original compositions. This approach builds confidence, structure, and clarity in written expression.

In keeping with the Charlotte Mason approach, language arts is taught through rich literature, narration, and meaningful reading, rather than through a standalone curriculum.

Biblical Studies

Students will follow a four-year cycle covering the entire Bible, emphasizing key people, events, and timeline, while encouraging Scripture memorization and growth in faith.

Mathematics

Math is an important subject that benefits from regular practice. At Legacy Lighthouse, we use Saxon Math to introduce new concepts and help students build good study habits, while parents partner at home by guiding daily practice, checking work, and helping with corrections. Each child will learn at their own level, ensuring instruction meets their individual needs.

History

History will be taught chronologically using living books rather than traditional textbooks. Each week begins with a brief lecture to introduce the historical focus and to support the development of note-taking skills. Students then participate in thoughtful, student-driven discussions that encourage observation, insight, and connection.

Shakespear

Each semester, students will study a Shakespeare play through reading, discussion, and performance, gaining an appreciation for his distinctive writing style.

Science

All students will study the same science topics, encouraging shared discussion, observation, and discovery.

Enrichment Days

Wednesdays are dedicated to enrichment and creativity. Students will enjoy activities such as poetry teatime, music and art appreciation, handicrafts, board games, nature study, and cultural studies. Additional electives may be added based on student interests.
